3rd CROATIAN
FILM FESTIVAL

Will be held in Tokyo

from November 15th to 17th, 2024!

GREETINGS

Croatia is located at the crossroads of various cultures and religions and has a long, rich and challenging history. Croatia is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world due to its people, natural beauty, cultural heritage and talented athletes.

A number of cultural exchange activities are taking place in both Croatia and Japan this year.
I am particularly pleased that THE JAPAN CROATIA FILM FESTIVAL will be organised again this year by the JAPAN CROATIA SOCIETY in Tokyo. The festival consists of two parts: the Japanese Film Festival in Zagreb and the Croatian Film Festival in Tokyo.

THE JAPAN CROATIA FILM FESTIVAL will introduce visitors to Croatia, Japan and both countries through a variety of film genres. Fans of Japanese animation in Croatia in particular will be well catered for.
The festival will also be an opportunity to get to know the cinematic arts of both countries, as well as to make new acquaintances and friends.
Unfortunately, due to my official duties in Japan, I will not be able to enjoy the Croatian screenings, but I am very much looking forward to seeing the films at the festival in Tokyo.

Dear friends of Croatia and Japan, and lovers of the art of cinema, I hope you will enjoy the film screenings in Zagreb and Tokyo to the fullest. We welcome you all!

Dražen Hrastić, Ambassador of Croatia to Japan

It is a joy and pleasure to inform you that this year we will be organizing the JAPAN CROATIA FILM FESTIVAL, a project that started in 2021 in order to connect Croatia and Japan through filmmaking, which are each unique, but also allow you to get to know culture, history and traditions of the country from which it comes. The Japanese film festival will be held in September in Zagreb, and the Croatian film festival in November in Tokyo.

This year, we will screen 8 Japanese films to the Croatian audience, including 5 feature and 3 short films. We are extremely proud that the leading Japanese productions of manga and anime films recognized our festival as a high-quality event for the presentation of their films on the Croatian market.

Osamu Tezuka, also known as the Japanese Walt Disney, is considered the king of manga and the founder of Japanese anime, and thus is an indispensable figure in the Japanese manga and anime world. It is a great honor that I had the opportunity to meet him personally during his visit to Zagreb when he was a member of the jury of the Zagreb Animafest, and thus I am even more pleased with the screening of the film Black Jack from 1996, which will give the Croatian audience the opportunity to see the quality of anime from almost 30 years ago .

Doraemon, the blue earless robotic cat, is probably the most famous anime and manga character in Japan, and for the last 40 years, all Japanese spent their childhood watching his adventures, which always have an educational and moral message. We will present the latest feature-length anime to the Croatian audience, which was officially presented to the Japanese audience in March of this year.

In Tokyo, we will screen award-winning and recognized Croatian films, in order to present a wide selection of Croatian filmmaking to the Japanese audience.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the collaborators and sponsors from the bottom of my heart, thanks to whom we are organizing Croatian-Japanese film festivals.

We look forward to your arrival!

Edouard Tripković-Katayama, representative director “JAPAN CROATIA SOCIETY”
